Summary of Craigslist

The debate that we had in class was whether or not craigslist should have regulation on what is posted. Some people in our class said that it would be a good idea to have posts checked, either kept or removed, depending on what the truth is. A good reason for having a system of regulation is to reinforce good behavior and to avoid being scammed while you are searching for what you want on craigslist. The article that i posted mentions how people are using craigslist for illegal activity such as advertising prostitution or the selling of illegal drugs. This comes to the second part of the debate where some students in our class say that it should not be regulated. Because of the free access and use of the site, some students in our class say that it should not be regulated and that there is no means to do it. I think that there should be some sort of regulation, meaning that there should be a computer that searches for key words that sound like a scam and remove that post.

i agree with kyriakos that craigslist should have some sort of regulation about the posts that the site have and the bigest problem that craigslist have is the free access to the site and there is no charges for each post thats why a lot of people use it for illegal activity

I think it is still necessary to have some regulations over Craigslist. Because it is really a big website and it provides and contains so many information to people. If they can maintain and upgrading everything efficiently. This website can be very helpful for people.

I don't think any type of regulation is needed on craigslist. It's not a website that profits off the user. If someone does want to use craigslist for illegal activities let them do so ,because it's inevitable for them not to get caught if they're advertising does become popular.

After reading the article I couldnt help but be reminded of professors warning us about using websites like wikipedia, since anyone can post you can't tell between what is true and what isnt. This is similar to the predicament of Craigs list. I believe that it would be impossible however to regulate Craigs list too much since new things are added daily. If the website is regulated this might also impede people who are trying to put legitimate information up. I think fraud is a danger that cannot be revoked when it comes to the internet. There is simply too much information available. We need to use our own judgement and try to prevent ourselves from being victims of fraud.

I agree with you guys that craigslist has to have some sort of regulation, but i dont think it is possible, because to do that they would have to come up with more money to finance the security system.

As I said in class I believe that craigslist has no responsibility to try and clean up their site. They do not get paid and do not guarantee anything. Therefore, they have no responsibility to the users of their site.
