Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia in where you can find information that you do not even imagine. This encyclopedia is made by its users. Since it was launched in 2001, millions of articles had been created in different languages. Anyone with access to the internet can edit or add an article. But this liberty that this website gives to its users can be a bad thing. Many people can edit articles to favor them or their companies as the article mentioned. There is a big controversy because many companies are editing their articles deleting information and that is why now there is a program to identify where the edition of the article is coming from. Although this program gives that information it cannot be known who did it. I think that it is good that the website locks some articles as we could see in class to prevent the alteration of the information. People can write false information and as a consequence of this Wikipedia cannot be reliable on. We can do some research on Wikipedia but we must have in mind that the information can be incorrect so we should have other sources to verify it.

Before, i don't know people can write false information in wikipedia. I totally believe the information. Now, i am not dare to believe it. Wilkipedia is a good platform for knowledge and i like it very much. However, the information is not reliable. i don't think someone would check all the information in wikipedia and correct all of them. It reqiure a lot of time to do so. I hope wikipedia improve this problem. Maybe set a position specially for correct the information.
I agree with Eaky, because i often use the wikipedia to search many problems. I never think about if the wikipedia would bring some dubious information to the reader. It should be improved. All people willing to view the true informations online. If the information is creditable, its hit rate will go up ~~lol .i think that is the purpose for people create diversity digital community..
As useful as Wikipedia can be when looking up practically anything, it is definately a "user beware" site. After our own in-class demonstration of how easy it is to alter and create new information, it is clear to see why professors, when assignment projects, always reiterate to not use Wikipedia. In spite of this, it is still very practical for finding trivial information about a favorite TV shows or just information for your own purposes...
Honestly, before this class I didn't even know Wikipedia was a user-input based. I thought all the information was legitimate. I guess now I will have to take everything that I read with a grain of salt.
Normally I like to use the Chinese version of Wikipedia to search for information that I like to know. I think there are a lot of information up there that are free for everyone. Most importantly, I think most of the information is considered neutral rather than bias. I especially like to wiki for history events because it gives basic sequences of what happened in history, and I can then choose if I want to know the details. There are links under the some texts in Wikipedia with direct to related information, so when I read some history event, I can easily find detail about the important people, locations, and other related things.
I have always known that you should now trust a lot of the information that you find on the internet. Like Claudia said Wikipedia can sometimes be unreliable because you don't know what the source is for that information. People can put biased or untrue information that will cause you to think the worng things about certain topics. The best thing to do is to go to sites that are actual encyclopedias or that end in .edu.
As useful as it is, a biased information can never be used as a support for argument in terms of factual knowledge. However, a system for anonymous change tracking is being devised by Wikipedia to prevent inaccurate information posted. Simple info like the human anatomy might be useful being placed in the online encyclopedia - Wikipedia, but some biased info like how Hilary Clinton is being stated indirectly as a "successful and great" woman can be based on personal opinion - no matter how unbiased the author is.
